Measurements

Talking about cups, tablespoons or teaspoons is sometimes vague and relative. A cup could be almost filled, grated or heaping. Same for tablespoons and teaspoons. More, even the metric convention says a cup of water is 250ml, did you know that in US the common cups measures 240ml in Japan 200ml and so on?
This is definitely confusing but milliliters and grams are the same for everybody. For me is easier to measure by cups, tablespoons and teaspoons than to use every time the electric balance. So, I always need to have my conversions at hand.

I made up a list with the most common standard measurements. I checked them MYSELF with my own cup, tablespoon and teaspoon measurements so I do not need to measure them again each time. For 1/2, 1/4 or 1/8 measurements, a little bit of math is always a good exercise ...

1 cup of ...

  • honey = 360g
  • yoghurt = 260ml
  • water / milk / butter  = 250ml
  • sour cream = 235g
  • wheat flour =
  • butter = 225g
  • sugar = 200g
  • powdered sugar = 200g / 150 / 190
  • rice (uncooked) =200g
  • oil = 200g ?
  • (all purpose) flour = 150g
  • semolina = 150g
  • nuts chopped = 125g
  •  cornmeal = 120g
  • cocoa powder = 110g
  • almond meal = 90g

1 tablespoon (tbsp / T) of ...
  • butter (soft) = 50g
  • powdered sugar = 25g
  • salt = 35g / 20g?
  • sugar = 30g
  • semolina = 25g
  • honey = 22g
  • all purpose flour = 20g
  • water = 15ml
  • corn meal = 15g
  • cornstarch = 10g
  • baking powder = 8g
  • dried yeast = 8g
  • cocoa powder = 6g

1 teaspoon (tsp / t) of ...
  • butter (soft) = 20g
  • sugar = 12g
  • powdered sugar = 8g
  • salt = 8g
  • semolina = 7g
  • all purpose flour = 5g
  • water = 5ml

Other equivalents:
  • 1 tablespoon = 3 teaspoons
  • 1 cup = 16 tablespoons = 48 teaspoons
  • 1 pinch = 1/8 teaspoon ~ 2g

Degrees:
Celsius vs Farenheit
130ºC = 250ºF
150ºC = 300ºF
180ºC = 350ºF
200ºC = 400ºF
230ºC = 450ºF
