Nettle Aloe Vera Shampoo bar

Maybe once or twice a year I make my own cosmetics. My affair with homemade soaps and shampoos started some years ago when my childhood friend taught me how to do them. Since then I only use homemade staff.

Solid shampoo bars are my favourite because I can customise them to what I want. They are all natural and made by my own hands.
Recently I have done 3 types and I will share them here with you.

Ingredients:

  • 266g sweet almond oil
  • 58g mango butter
  • 255g shea butter
  • 155g castor oil
  • 308g olive oil
  • 458g coconut oil
  • 317g nettle tea (preferably frozen in ice cubes)
  • 253g aloe vera gel
  • 217g NaOH
  • 25g nettle powder
  • 30g bentonite clay
  • 10g lavender essential oil
  • 10g teatree essential oil
  • 10g peppermint essential oil
  • 10g vitamin E

Directions:
Warning: this is not a beginner recipe, if you are not aware of how to work with NaOH (protection gloves, protection glasses etc) I suggest you follow a quick training.
  1. Mix the nettle tea (ice cubes) with aloe vera gel in a bowl then sprinkle NaOH. This solution will get warm/hot after mixing, so you'll need to wait until it arrives to room temperature.
  2. In the meantime, mix all the oils (first set in the recipe) in a large pot and put them on low heat until all butter and solid oils are melted. Then, give a good stir and let them cool to room temperature.
  3. When both NaOH solution and oil mixture are cooled to room temperature, turn on your hand mixer in the oil pot and pour the NaOH solution slowly while continuing to mix.
  4. Add the essential oils, vitamin E, nettle powder and clay and mix. This mixture will slowly thicken and when it gets like a gel consistency, stop the mixer.
  5. Pour the soap into mould(s) and let it sit for 2-3 days before unmoulding it.
  6. Slice it into smaller portions and let it cure for one month.
