Autumn soap

Sometimes, when verifying the pantry I find some stuff stored that I should better use before expiring. This is the case with some special oils and butter. This soap has some interesting oils inside (avocado, coconut, grapeseed) and is flavoured with cinnamon and cloves essential oils. Almost sounds like autumn right? In one month we will be there ...

Ingredients:

  • 300g avocado oil (20%)
  • 440g coconut oil (30%)
  • 241g castor oil (16%)
  • 236 palm oil (16%)
  • 124g grapeseed oil (8%)
  • 108g shea butter (7%)
  • 51g kokum butter (3%)
  • 570g water (ice cubes)
  • 215g NaOH
  • 30g bentonite clay
  • 10g cinnamon essential oil
  • 10g cloves essential oil
  • few drops of soap dye

Directions:
Warning: this is not a beginner recipe, if you are not aware of how to work with NaOH (protection gloves, protection glasses etc) I suggest you follow a quick training.
  1. Over the water (ice cubes) sprinkle NaOH and mix. This solution will get warm/hot after mixing, so you'll need to wait until it arrives to room temperature.
  2. In the meantime, mix all the oils (first set in the recipe) in a large pot and put them on low heat until all butter and solid oils are melted. Then, give a good stir and let them cool to room temperature.
  3. When both NaOH solution and oil mixture are cooled to room temperature, turn on your hand mixer in the oil pot and pour the NaOH solution slowly while continuing to mix.
  4. Add the essential oils and clay and mix. This mixture will slowly thicken and when it gets like a gel consistency, stop the mixer.
  5. Split the soap mixture in 2 and put the dye in one of them.
  6. Pour the soap into mould(s) alternating the colours and let it sit for 2-3 days before unmoulding it.
  7. Slice it into smaller portions and let it cure for one month.
